The HFR Solutions apprenticeship scheme was set up in 2013. Applicants are required to complete a robust selection program, including both practical and theoretical assessments. The successful candidate(s) are then subject to interviews to confirm suitability. Of over 150 applicants received in 2013, three were offered apprenticeships with HFR Solutions.
The apprenticeship includes attending a full initial Firefighters course at HFRS Headquarters, and involves training and assessments in the following areas:
- Chemistry of Fire
- Fire Service Equipment
- Pumps and Ladders
- Breathing Apparatus
- Working at Height
- Water Rescue
- Road Traffic Collisions
- Immediate Emergency Care (Trauma)
Each apprenticeship runs for two years with all apprentices being subject to regular assessments in order that they complete both a BTEC and NVQ Level Three in Emergency Fire Service Operations within the Community. Apprentices also have to complete a number of assignments which requires them to participate in the Tribune Trust Night Challenge and Rescue Day, as well as conducting visits to schools giving talks on their apprenticeship scheme.
