HFR Solutions funding supports EYRC community defibrillator installation programme
Over the past 18 months, HFR Solutions CIC have delivered a range of fire safety solutions such as Fire Risk Assessments for high-risk buildings and fire prevention solutions to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC).
As a result of undertaking this work, we have been able to provide some funding to support ERYC community safety initiatives. The council were keen to discuss and explore how best to utilise this funding and how their local communities could benefit from this project.
It was decided some of this funding should contribute towards the installation of defibrillators and training in communities throughout the region. Following a meeting with the CADEY committee (Community Access Defibrillators for East Yorkshire), a team who work to improve survival rates in East Yorkshire from cardiac arrests, the council collaborated with Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) and the Smiles Foundation, to collate a list of places and villages within its boundaries, which currently don’t have a local community defibrillator.
Pilot schemes identified
Following research, some communities were identified as potential areas that should be prioritised. To give this initiative some initial momentum they have decided to start some pilot some schemes, in Hornsea and Stamford Bridge.
For this community initiative to maximise its impact and deliver potential life-saving benefits, it was recommended that the best way forward would be to implement a train the trainer model, which would entail HFR Solutions and YAS, training some suitably qualified people from the community in the best practice use of these defibrillators, who could then train other members of the community.
Nick Granger, Managing Director, HFR Solutions CIC, commented: “We are delighted that our partnership with East Riding of Yorkshire Council will result in some local communities having access to a community defibrillator. The collaboration with YAS, Smiles Foundation and ‘Help for Health’ has helped give this initiative some real impetus”.
This program helps to support HFR Solutions vision of making the local community a safer place to live and work and builds on the great work delivered through programmes such as the Heartstart, which provides community-based basic first aid and life support training to community groups.
