Essex Event To Give Businesses Emergency Planning Tips

Are you ready for winter?

Businesses and residents in Essex have been able to benefit from learning about emergency response planning in winter during a special event held in Tendring recently.

Several organisations, including Tendring Council’s emergency planning team, Essex Fire and Rescue, UK Power Network, Public Health and Affinity Water, were at Wix Village Hall last week (October 27th) to provide people with advice on preparing for wintry conditions over the next few months.

The Get Ready for Winter event, which ran from 10:00 till 16:00, was the brainchild of Tendring Council and Wix Parish Council, the Daily Gazette reported.

Cabinet member for leisure, health and wellbeing at the local authority Lynda McWilliams, was quoted by the newspaper as saying: “It is very important that our residents – especially the more vulnerable – manage to cope with all the various situations that can arise, and stay safe and well.”

She added many people will find it beneficial to “discuss issues with the experts” to help themselves become better prepared.

The event was intended to raise public awareness of flood and severe weather risks, as well as give tips on travelling, health and wellbeing.

It is running as part of a larger campaign by the Met Office. The Get Ready for Winter initiative is helping people all over the UK access advice to keep their properties and business premises warm, stay healthy and reduce their risk of being affected by cold weather, storms, flooding, snow and ice.

For severe weather warnings, such as snow, rain, wind, fog and ice, members of the public and business owners are being reminded to check the Met Office for regular updates.
