An accident at a recycling plant based in Birmingham has resulted in the deaths of five workers, following the collapse of a 15ft concrete wall.
Despite paramedics' best efforts to free the men, they were unable to save five employees, the Daily Telegraph reports. A sixth worker was taken to hospital with leg injuries.
A spokesman from the West Midlands Ambulance Service was quoted by the news source as saying: "On arrival, ambulance crews found a wall that had collapsed. Sadly, there was nothing that could be done to save the five men who had been working next to it. A sixth man was partially trapped by the falling concrete but had managed to get out from the rubble himself."
Now, a joint Health and Safety Executive and police investigation will be carried out to establish what caused the accident, with Force CID's Detective Superintendent Mark Payne saying that they will be looking into whether any malpractice or negligence contributed to the collapse of the wall.
