Cumbria often sees the worst in severe weather conditions in the UK, which is why a new website has been launched as part of a campaign to get residents prepared for winter.
The Cumbria Winter Ready initiative offers advice and information, so Cumbrians know how to avoid difficult situations during adverse weather, as well as how to deal with them should they arise.
Emergency planning advice is included on the website, providing guidance on how to protect your home if it is at risk of flooding and what to do if you are flooded this winter.
Councillor Stewart Young, leader of the Cumbria County Council, said the campaign has been launched as “last winter was a really tough time” due to severe flooding in many regions.
He stated to avoid similar problems this year, the local authority has worked with communities to help them become better prepared to face winter conditions.
“We have worked with our partners to launch this new campaign including our new dedicated website to provide a one-stop source of information and advice to help residents and businesses prepare for the coming winter,” Mr Young commented.
This comes after the council has spent the last 12 months repairing infrastructure around the region, including roads and bridges, which were damaged during the heavy rain last year.
The website also provides the latest updates on road and bridge closures, so residents can find out what routes to avoid.
