Renewable Energy Support At ‘All-Time High’

A recent UK government poll highlights that support for renewable energy has reached an all-time high.

With your GWO working at heights knowledge, your role in supporting the safety, best practice and meeting expected wind industry accredited training standards is already in action, however, that’s only half the battle. Wind energy has long been controversial because of its footprint on the landscape, as well as its long-supposed impact on the surrounding environment.

However, a new UK government poll highlights that support for renewable energy has reached an all-time high. Asking a sample of 2,012 people from across the UK, support for renewable energy hit 85 per cent - an increase of three per cent on the previous high set last year.

Breaking down the figures, individual support for all renewables also grew - while onshore wind power reached 76 per cent approval rating, it was offshore wind which had the biggest surge in positive feeling, topping out at 83 per cent, according to Climate Action Programme. Opposition to these energy sources also fell to below 10 per cent.

Emma Pinchbeck, Executive Director at wind trade body RenewableUK, commented: ““It’s great that our industry is winning the global race for clean energy, and to see that the British public is cheering them on.”

Offshore wind has had a pivotal year, with new technology advances and weather conditions making it a more important part of the energy mix than ever, and it’s not gone unnoticed by the general public.

In this year’s survey, 75 per cent saw the economic benefits of renewable energy projects to the UK, and the number of people who would be happy to have a large-scale project in their local area grew by eight per cent to 66 per cent.
