COMAH sites are regulated under the COMAH Regulations, which have been put in place to prevent major accidents and limit their consequences for individuals and surrounding areas. Sites that fall under COMAH regulations must develop safety reports, implement risk management measures, and engage with local communities about safety and emergency planning. What are the basic GWO safety training courses?

When do I need to renew my GWO courses?

You must renew your courses prior to the expiry date. If you sit your refresher courses within 60 days of the expiry, you will receive 2 years revalidation, on top of the original expiry date.

Can I sit a revalidation course if my certificate has expired?

No, if you pass your GWO expiry date, you must resit the initial training courses again.

Do I need to renew my GWO courses every year if I am working in Germany/German waters?

Whilst GWO provide a 2 year expiry on their training courses, most individuals will be required to ensure they have one year or more remaining on their certifications work in Germany/German waters.

Do I need to sit a GWO Enhanced First Aid Initial, if I already have a current GWO First Aid certificate? Or can I sit straight on a Revalidation course?

No, you are only required to sit the 2 day Enhanced First Aid Revalidation course, even if you have never sat the Enhanced course before.

Why should I learn CPR?

To save lives! The chance of survival from cardiac arrest with early intervention is significantly improved, as prompt treatment can limit damage to the heart muscle, restore blood flow, and prevent complications. The survival rate depends on several factors, including how quickly the person receives treatment, the type of heart attack, and the overall health of the patient.

How many Fire Marshals do I need?

The correct number of fire marshals for your premises will be determined by the hazards and risks identified in your fire risk assessment. There is no set formula of numbers of staff to numbers of fire marshals but the fire risk assessment will take into consideration building layout, hazards, staff numbers, fire risk and hours of operation amongst other factors. This will produce an effective fire safety strategy for your premises including numbers of fire marshals along with their responsibilities.
